On The Grid Financial was created by electric utility industry employees for electric utility industry employees.
In 1935, a small group of Georgia Power Company, Atlanta Division, employees pooled their funds and Georgia Power Atlanta Federal Credit Union was chartered by the Farm Credit Association. More than 50 years later, we changed our name to Georgia Power Federal Credit Union after merging with the Georgia Power Augusta Employees Credit Union.
In the 1990s we started growing the credit union by adding Select Employee Groups to our field of membership. In the years between 2002 and 2005, we completed mergers with three more small credit unions. After being granted a Trade/Industry/Professional charter in 2006 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), our membership base broadened to those who work in the electric utility industry in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
In 2015 we retired our “Georgia Power” name in favor of On The Grid Financial. We needed to establish a name that would resonate with our entire potential field of membership, including those who work in the electric utility industry in ALL of the 11 states we serve, not just in Georgia. We felt confident that the new name would not detract from who we are and who we are chartered to serve. We also continue to serve other groups added from mergers.
We have a renewed sense of purpose to our members and prospects and an added zeal to recruit prospects from all of the states we serve. As we continue to grow and prosper, all of our members will benefit from an even greater range of products and services, special promotions and convenience.
